The event took place on Sunday, 1st July 2007 from 7.00pm to 10.00pm at the Central Barış Park in Kyrenia to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the oldest tree (700 hundred years old) relocated in the region. |

SAVE organized a 6-day study tour to Lithuania for fifteen water amangers, technical experts and local leaders from across the island, including Alsancak, Lapta, Güzelyurt, Lefke and Famagusta. The purpose of the tour was to provide concrete, hands-on exposure to waste water management and treatment options that could be applied in northern Cyprus. |

SAVE project sponsored a clean up event at Karpaz Golden Beach as part of the Sea Turtle Protection Project. This project is run by environmental protection department with SAVE's assistance to build local capacity on marine habitat protection and raise public awareness. |

Over 75 school children became “Turtle Biologists for a Day” and learned first hand what it’s like to work with and protect endangered sea turtles that visit Cyprus. Fourth and fifth year students from Dipkarpaz Primary School spent the morning of September 20th exploring the nesting behaviors of Loggerheads and Green Turtles, identifying turtle tracks, seeing egg chambers, and identifying threats to the turtles. The event was led by Monica Aureggi, international turtle conservation expert from the SAVE Project and members of the Turtle Monitoring and Conservation Team based in Dipkarpaz. Teachers also joined in the day’s activities. |

A new mulching pilot program was launched in the Lefke community on 7 November 2007 in collaboration with the Supporting Activities that Value the Environment (SAVE) project which is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and works to build local capacity to better protect and manage Cyprus’ valuable natural and cultural resources. This project will dispose of local tree and branch trimmings by converting them into organic mulch. |

DON’T DUMP IT, COMPOST IT! TURN YOUR TRASH INTO TREASURE!
With help from the Supporting Activities that Value the Environment (SAVE) project, Beyarmudu is tackling its trash and turning it into treasure! A home composting pilot program was launched in the Beyarmudu community on 6 December 2007 to demonstrate how residents can easily turn household and garden waste into organic compost. |

A tourist guide is being unveiled today that promotes the rich and fascinating outdoor museum that is Famagusta’s walled city. It is being launched in honor of International Museum Day whose theme this year is “Museums as agents of social change and development”. The Famagusta Historic Trail is a walking tour of Famagusta within the walls. |

The Supporting Activities that Value the Environment (SAVE) Project has developed a guide on water-wise landscaping. The guide, titled “How Does Your Garden Grow in Cyprus: A Simple Guide to Water-Wise Landscaping for Beautiful Gardens”, demonstrates how to save water while maintaining a lush, beautiful garden even in the face of Cyprus’ high temperatures and water shortages. The guide is available to anyone who wants to garden in a more environmentally sustainable way! |

The Supporting Activities that Value the Environment (SAVE) Project is launching a water-wise landscaping (xeriscaping) park design competition. This new park will be a model eco-park and a tangible demonstration of how gardening to save water can still provide a beautifully green and flowering oasis for any community. The winner will earn a 1500 TL prize and see the design brought to life in a 300 m2 park in the heart of Alsancak/Karavas. |

A model Eco-Park was opened in the heart of Alsancak/Karavas yesterday, on Friday, June 5, 2009 to coincide with World Environment Day. The Eco-Park was developed jointly by the Supporting Activities that Value the Environment (SAVE) Project and Alsancak/Karavas; and it features xeriscape landscaping, otherwise known as water-wise gardening, solar power and efficient irrigation techniques and is complete with playground equipment and benches making it a destination for the whole family. |
